Rena Elizabeth Young

Rena Elizabeth Young, age 87, was welcomed into her heavenly home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Altercare Summit Acres in Caldwell. She was born September 5, 1935, daughter of the late Andrew and Ida Bates. Rena was a 1952 graduate of Summerfield High School.  She spent 66 years employed at the Noble County Courthouse and the law offices of Young, Young, and Sickler in Caldwell. Rena was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer who won the Cambridge Country Club Championship, along with the distinction of having a hole-in-one. She had a special place in her heart for cats. Rena will be fondly remembered for her willingness to help others, especially her open heart for helping those in need. Her love of life and her love for people will be sorely missed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Annabelle Archer and a brother, Donald E. Bates.

Surviving are two sons, Ray (Chris) Zerger of Buffalo and Rick (Kitty) Zerger of Caldwell and three step-daughters, Julia Hall, Jennifer Parrish, and Jessica McIntire. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren, Bryan, Renae, Chris, Shannon, Holly, Adam, Sean, Megan, Travis, Heath, and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Lizzy, John, Noah, Madison, Trevor, Grace, Parker, Carlie, Hayden, Shelbi, Lakyn, Loryn, Joey, Jenni, and Jessi; and several nieces and nephews; and two special people in her life, Joyce Young and Brooke Zerger.

Friends may call Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Monday, May 8th at 11AM with Pastor Gary Fitzgerald and Pastor Jeff Coggins officiating.     This was one grand lady. She was always so accommodating in the law office. Her smile and her voice made anyone feel at ease. Prayers to her family during this difficult time.
