Clara I. “Jean” Danford
Clara I. “Jean” Danford, age 90, of Ava, Ohio, died Monday, May 19, 2025, at Altercare Summit Acres in Caldwell. Jean was born December 7, 1934, in Ava, daughter of the late Harold C. Schott and Dorothy D. Perkins Schott McVicker. She was a 1952 graduate and salutatorian of Belle Valley High School. Jean retired as program director for GMN Tri-County Community Action in Caldwell following 45 years of service. She was also employed over the years by Westinghouse, Hamilton Beach in Byesville, the Lone Elm in Ava, and Robey’s Restaurant in Caldwell. She was a member of the Ava United Methodist Church. Jean was a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Indians, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers and she enjoyed going to the Wheeling Island Casino. She loved to attend sporting events for her children and grandchildren and was devoted to her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Neil Danford, whom she married December 27, 1952, and who died November 14, 2005; an infant son, William Keith Danford; and a daughter-in-law, LuAnn Danford.
Surviving are her children, D. Denise (Gerald) Denius of Ava, Jeffery N. (Madeline) Danford of Caldwell, and Christopher J. (Merry Lea) Danford of Morrisville, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Justin (Morgan) Denuis, Rudy (Danielle) Denius, Jessica (Scott) Mackey, Katie (Ron) Rankin, Patrick (Samantha) Danford, Ryan (Morgan) Danford and Nicole (Akira) Fitzgerald; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; her siblings, Linda C. (John) Carter and Tybithia S. (Jerry) Springer, all of Caldwell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Friday, May 23, 2025, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1 p.m. with Ken Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery.
