Osolene Mary Saling

Osolene Mary Saling, 93, of Vincent, Ohio, went to meet her Savior on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 20, 1927 in Noble County, Ohio, to the late Beda Francis and Marie (Coleman) Arnold.

Osolene was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church where she was a sacristan for over 25 years.  Her late husband, James Saling, and she took care of the mission church for several years.  They provided breakfast for the visiting priests and decorated the church with flowers. They continued to take care of the church throughout their lives. She was also a member of the Barlow VFD Ladies Auxiliary, and loved playing Euchre, Rook and Solo. Osolene was a prayer warrior always remembering her family and friends in her daily devotions.  The joy of her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rosalyn “Lynn” Pierce of Vincent, and Melissa Hickman (Scott) of Waterford, Ohio and daughter in law Claudia Saling of Vincent.  She was lovingly known as Granny to her nine grandchildren, Jimmie Pierce II (Cassie), Jeanette Arnold (Andy), Jamie Pierce (Kevin), Jackie Greenwalt (Dan), Matthew Saling (Jaime), Evan Saling, Louis Saling (Toni), Raleigh Saling (Erica) and Aaron Saling; 13 great grandchildren; Emma, Ella, and Lawrence Arnold (Jeanette), Celeste Pierce (Jamie), Ashton and Abby Saling (Matt), Jimmie Pierce III (Jimmie), Elayna and Taylor Greenwalt, Julia Hamrick (Jackie), Jenna and Michael Saling (Louis), Natalee Saling (Raleigh), six brothers, Francis Arnold (Norma), James Arnold (Bonnie), Kenneth Arnold, Melvin Arnold (Carolyn), Ronald Arnold (Diana) and Harold Arnold (Shirley); four sisters, Evelyn Willmer (Erv), Donna Crock (Kenny), Shirley Carna and Rose Hedge (Marlan).  Her smile and laughter will be missed by countless nieces, nephews and godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Saling; son, Louis Saling; sisters, Bernetta Barrett, Leona Benner; brothers Roger Arnold and infant brothers, Edward and Bernard.

Osolene’s family will greet friends at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Tuesday June 23 from 2-8 pm, and at 3 pm Sister Joan will say the rosary. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on June 24, 2020 at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church with Father Robert Gallagher and Father Timothy Shannon concelebrating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Churchtown.

Please be advised that social distancing will be observed at the funeral home and church and it is suggested that attendees please wear a mask. Friends are asked not to linger following greeting of the family on Tuesday.

Special thanks to Dr. Lloyd Dennis, Marietta Amedisys staff, and Ruth Morris. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Barlow Fire Department. Cawley & Peoples is honored to serve the Saling family, offering on-line condolences and many other resources by visiting
