Herbert D. Carpenter

Herbert D. Carpenter, 88, of Quaker City, died Thursday (October 15, 2020) at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell.

He was born January 2, 1932 in Noble County, son of the late Alva Carpenter and Mary (Yost) Carpenter.

A 1950 graduate of Batesville High School, Mr. Carpenter retired from Glacier-Vandervell.

He was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Quaker City.

Mr. Carpenter was a US Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Quaker City Masonic Lodge #500 F. & A.M., the Barnesville Order of the Eastern Star # 206, and the Delaware American Legion Post #888.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Mae (Mallett) Carpenter, who died June 19, 2019.  They were married April 14, 1951.  Also deceased is a son, Conda Carpenter; two brothers, Rodney Carpenter and Robert Carpenter; and six sisters, Zelma Huebner, Olive Maurer, Mary Lois Suhr, Lenna Mae Clauss, Dorothy Morris, and Norma Morris.

He is survived by three brothers, Connie (Marsha) Carpenter, Frank (Bessie) Carpenter, and Max (Sharon) Carpenter; two grandchildren, Konna (Steve) Pekarcik and Shawn (Jen) Carpenter; and five great-grandchildren, Hanna Mae Pekarcik, Isaac Pekarcik, Juliet Pekarcik, Quentin Carpenter, and Cale Carpenter.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (October 20, 2020) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating.  [Per our Governor’s current COVID-19 guidelines, face coverings are required to attend the visitation and/or services. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
