Mary E. Davis age 88 of Caldwell, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio. She was born August 27, 1932 in Monroe County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Edna Kuhn (Nick) Masciarelli and Ray Birch.
She worked for many years at the former Mahle Manufacturing Plant in Caldwell and was a member of their Steel Workers Union. She will also be remembered by many as the former owner and operator of Herlan’s Inn (The Trail). She was a beautiful, giving and strong woman, always there for so many. She loved watching OSU football and could often be found working in her flower gardens. She will be fondly remembered for her perpetual sweet tooth, making batches of peanut butter fudge and rice pudding for family vacations and she looked forward to her monthly delivery of Cheryl’s Cookies.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Masciarelli and Marilyn Joan Miller Bishop; three brothers, James, Nick and Tom Masciarelli; her special nephew Orlis Matthew Miller; her special child (pet) Kasper.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Douglas Davis of Caldwell, LeeAnn (Jim) Johnson of Lewisville and Grant Arthur (Michelle) Davis II of Westerville; two granddaughters, Kayli Nicole (Ryan) Dennis and Ashley Marie Kosal; three bonus grandchildren, Dan (Kelly) Johnson, Dennis (Chad Appel) Johnson, and Bethany (Andy) Brehm; five bonus great-grandchildren (Juliana, Macy, Bryn, Claire and Liam); siblings Esther (Jim) Ristaneo of Middletown, Diana Minosky of Cambridge, Judy Biedenbach of Lewisville, and Bill (Patty) Masciarelli of Summerfield. She is also survived by her cat Oreo, several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, May 28, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Father Chester Pabin serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Olive Cemetery in Caldwell.
