Betty J. Dunaway

Betty J. Dunaway age 81, of Caldwell, Ohio passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio. She was born March 31, 1939 in Mt. Ephraim, Ohio a daughter of the late Rodney R. and Zola Neiswanger Williams.

She attended the Mt. Ephraim Elementary School, was a 1956 graduate of the Sarahsville High School, and went on to graduate from the Columbus Business University. She was a member of the Sarahsville Alumni Association and the Sarahsville Athletic “200” Club. She had been employed at The Farmers and Merchants Bank, The First National Bank and later retired after 23 years as an Administrative Assistant from the Ohio Department of Transportation in Washington County.

She was very active in the Eastern Stars having been a 52-year member of the Amazon Chapter #30 Order of Eastern Star, which she joined on February 20, 1968.  She was also a member of the Masterton Chapter #584 Order of Eastern Star. Betty enjoyed collecting angels and butterflies. She loved her beloved cats Lizzy and Beanie. She was Methodist by faith attending Belle Valley, Mt. Ephraim, and Sarahsville Methodist Churches.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ohio State Trooper Dale Dunaway whom she married May 13, 1982 and who passed on August 21, 1996, son Dwight Watson Jr. and her children’s father Dwight Watson.

Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter Elizabeth (Fiancé Mike Kuss) Watson; son Stephen (Denise) Watson; daughter-in-law Marcie Watson; step-children Darlene (Ray) Bentz, Carla Dunaway, and Dana Dunaway; sister Rose (James) Sholtis; grandchildren Stacie (Troy) DeVolld, Shauna Watson, Kayla Watson, Stephen (Carissa) Watson, Alexis Watson, Hunter Watson, Dayle and Kiel Bentz, Brandi (Travis) Winstead and Adam Dunaway; great-grandchildren Hailey, Tyce, and Hannah DeVolld; Khloe, Jace and Carson Watson, Jocee, Baylee Archer, Koltlee Watson, Tucker and Crew Watson; nephews Jim (Sheila) Sholtis and his children Eric Sholtis, Heath Sholtis, and Sierra Giesey; Tony Sholtis and his children Josh Sholtis and Ashley McLean; special and dear friends Larry Robinson and Perry Steed; special caretakers Darlene Hoover, Joyce Young, and Lana Van Hoose.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A memorial service with an Eastern Star Service will conclude visitation Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mark Slay officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Mt. Ephraim Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Betty’s honor to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
