Vernon W. Crum

Vernon W. Crum, age 76, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, October 1, 2021, at his family farm. He was born April 17, 1945, in Caldwell, son of the late John Parker and Lottie Opal Morrison Crum. Vernon was a 1963 graduate of Summerfield High School and he attended Ohio Valley College in Parkersburg, West Virginia, for two years. He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in Caldwell, where he drove truck and was an equipment operator and labor foreman. He was a member of the Crum Ridge Church of Christ, where he was a former elder and Sunday School teacher. Vernon preached at many Church of Christ congregations in the Noble and Monroe County area. He operated the family farm and he enjoyed woodworking and woodcarving. He enjoyed attending shows where he demonstrated his projects, including the Soakum Festival, the Old Iron Power Show, and the Fall Festival in Marr, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant sister, Helen Opal Crum; and one brother, John Carlos Crum.

Surviving are his wife, Faith Elaine Bonam Crum, whom he married June 24, 1982; his children, Amanda J. Crum and John D. (Liz) Crum, all of Caldwell, and Andrea R. (Brian) Peoples of Senecaville; his siblings, Eva Bettinger, Ellen Martin, Marlee Crum, and Larry Crum, all of Caldwell; two grandchildren, Hanan Hurst and Abigail Hurst; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell. The funeral service will be observed Thursday, October 7 at 11 a.m. at the Crum Ridge Church of Christ, 40660 Crum Ridge Road, Caldwell, with Sam Bartrug and Randy Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Crum Ridge Cemetery. Due to current Covid conditions, guests are asked to follow recommended safety guidelines at all gatherings.
