Carolyn Jean (Chesser) Wharton

Carolyn Jean (Chesser) Wharton, 84, of Cambridge, passed away Sunday (November 21, 2021) at her home.

She was born June 8, 1937 in Columbus, daughter of the late Charles E. and Marianna (Hollburg) Chesser.

Mrs. Wharton, along with her husband Harry, were the owners and operators of the former Wharton General Store in Mt. Ephraim.  She was a graduate of Linden McKinley High School.  She was a caring and loving person who always had time for others, especially children.  She was a foster parent for most of her adult life, and also enjoyed painting, sewing and writing.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harry Wharton whom she married September 17, 1955 and who passed away December 13, 2003; two sons, Stephen Charles and Robert Allen; two sisters, Charlene Hannaford and Louise Barr; son-in-law Dale Buckey.

She is survived by one son William A. Wharton (Cheryl Carpenter) of Columbus; one daughter, Nancy Archer Buckey of Caldwell; one sister Sue (John) Rister of Whitehall; three grandchildren, Dan (Sarah) Wharton, Nate (Stephanie) Wharton and Natasha (Paul) Dovenbarger; two great grandchildren, Nakayla Dovenbarger and Kaylee Wharton; two daughter-in-laws, Nancy Lynn Wharton of Westerville and Mary Wharton of Mt. Ephraim.

Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday (November 27, 2021) at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will follow at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Mt. Ephraim Cemetery.
