Well-known area Veterinarian Retiring after 62 Years

Submitted by Kris Charles

Dr. Daniel Schramm is retiring from his veterinary practice on April 30, which is also his 85th birthday. Dr. Schramm provided veterinary care to the Caldwell and Marietta areas for 62 years.

He has been called the modern-day James Herriot of “All Creatures Great and Small” fame as he often accepted baked goods and candy as a form of payment. His walk-in clinic was simple, convenient, and open to anyone because animals were his priority, rather than money, people’s opinions, or frills. It was all many in this Appalachian-poor area could afford. He often spoke his mind, but he also became more than just a vet, he became a friend.

Due to age and for health reasons, Dr. Schramm left Caldwell to be closer to home where he has continued his practice with his assistant Natalie and wife Martha.

Caldwell has not yet been able to replace him and still misses him greatly.

The doctor would love to hear from friends and well-wishers on his birthday and retirement. Please send your cards of appreciation, support, retirement and birthday wishes to:
Dr. Dan Schramm DVM. . 27370 State Route 7 Marietta Ohio 45750 .

The family of Dr. Schramm would also like to invite all who wish him well to a Celebration Party on from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at the Marietta Township Community Center, located at 260 Sandhill Rd., Marietta. No gifts please.

Doctor Schramm is such a nice man. We enjoyed bring our pets and visiting with him. He took the time to visit my father in his last months. A true friend. Thank you and enjoy your retirement.

Dr Schramm is one of a kind as far as the vet goes. And he didn’t mind telling you if you were not taking care of your pet properly my cat no matter what we would do he would just continue to gain weight and Dr. Schramm would just drill me every time about you need to put this cat on a diet he is too heavy. I was planning on getting a pet and I’m disappointed that Dr Schramm is not gonna be able to be my new pets Dr..
