Redskins, Zeps Off and Running in Cross Country

The Caldwell and Shenandoah cross country teams ran at the Elizabeth S. Broughton Memorial Invitational in Marietta on Saturday.

The Shenandoah boys finished in ninth place in the boys’ race with 224 points while the Shenandoah girls and both Caldwell teams did not have enough runners to compete in the team race.

The top local finisher was Caldwell’s Blake Miller, who place 13th with a time of 18:09.0. Teammate Chuck Estadt finished in 16th in 18:29.2 and Alex Shenanshang was 45th in 20:38.0.

The top finisher for the Zeps was Jarrett Wentworth, who place 33rd with a time of 19:37.0. He was followed by Peyton Forshey (66th, 22:11.9), Ethan Stritz (67th, 22:15.4), Dierkis Vincent (70th, 22:44.2), Christian Dimmerling (71st, 22:47.0), Noah Townsend (78th, 24:37.7) and Cooper Vincent (89th, 28:21.8).

In the girls’ race, the Lady Redskins Emalee Laswell was the top local finisher, placing 24th with a time of 23:49.4. Other Caldwell finishers were Emma Lowe (26th, 24:11.2) and Jusdena Clark (28th, 24:22.7).

The top finisher for Shenandoah was Danica McAuley who placed 43rd with a time of 26:27.5. Other Lady Zeps finishers were Lorelei Shaufl (58th, 30:19.4) and Abby Tewksbary (64th, 33:12.3).

The Lady Redskins finished in eighth place in the junior high girls’ race, with Ida Estadt finishing in second place with a time of 13:38.2. Other finishers for Caldwell were Megan Lowe (17th, 14:51.6), Ella Bettinger (69th, 19:37.6), Caileigh Cole (71st, 20:07.4), Alivia Copley (72nd, 20:10.3) and Lydia Miller (74th, 20:27.4).

The lone junior high Lady Zep was Arista Piatt, who finished in 49th in 17:42.4. In the boys’ junior high race, Shenandoah’s Emmitt Slevin finished in 6th place in 12:25.0 followed by teammates Noah McElroy (28th, 14:13.1), Jace Noll (47th, 15:47.5) and Hunter Ackley (55th, 16:52.5).

The Zeps will be in action again on Wednesday when they travel to Barnesville while the Redskins will be at the Newcomerstown Invitational on Saturday.
