Gary Lee Edgar 75, of Estero, Florida, died March 28, 2023 in Ft. Myers after a brief illness. Gary was born on April 5, 1947 in Batesville, Ohio, a son of the late Dean and Irene (Finley) Edgar. He had been a resident of Estero since 2014.

He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1965. In 1970, he began his career with the Central Ohio Coal Company as a welder. He was the last operator of the largest dragline in the world “The Big Muskie” when he retired from the mine after 30 years.

Gary loved his family and his God. He enjoyed traveling, whale watching, running heavy equipment, fishing and shelling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Janet Hannum, mother-in-law, Dorothy Hannum.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma A. Edgar of Estero, FL, his daughter, Beth (Tod) Gundrum of Hilliard, OH, step-son, Bryan (Kim) Kerns of Zanesville, OH; brother, Larry (Barb) Edgar of Pataskala, OH, sister, Pam (Mike) Flood of Crooksville, OH; brother-in-law, Bill (Ruth) Hannum; grandchildren, Tessa Gundrum, Blane Thomas, Spencer and Elias Munshi, Drew, Ethan and Carson Kerns, Austin and Jake Mahan, Cooper and Laken Kerns, Brynn Chafin, and Brady and Bryson Hottinger.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Estero Church 8088 Lord’s Way, Estero, FL with Rev. Tim Carson, officiating.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Ohio later this spring.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Gary may be made to the Estero Church.
