Melvin A. “Mel” West
Melvin A. “Mel” West, age 86, of Pleasant City, Ohio, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge. He was born October 17, 1936, in Pleasant City on the family farm, son of the late Vernon A. and Bertha Blanche Cale West. Mel was a 1954 graduate of Sarahsville High School. He owned and operated a family farm all of his life. He retired in 2001 from the Dana Corporation in Caldwell following 42 years of service. He attended the Ava Free Methodist Church and was a member of the former Center Free Methodist Church in Sarahsville.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Mildred “Sally” Robinson; and two brothers, Miley West and Charles “Chuck” West.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Lou Buckley West, whom he married June 20, 1959; his children, Deborah J. Hesson of Pleasant City, Bonnie L. (Kevin) Warne of Cambridge, Timothy M. (Karen) West of Pleasant City, and Donald E. “Jake” (Heather) West of Pleasant City; six grandchildren, Megan Guth of Naples, Florida, Jonathan “JD” (Alexis) Hesson of Cumberland, and Taylor West, Bain Allen West, Katarina West, and Dalton West, all of Pleasant City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Friday, April 28, 2023, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will follow visitation at 2 p.m. with Ken Perkins officiating. I remember Mel well, always greeted people with a huge smile.
