Guernsey County Common Pleas Court Judge Daniel Padden announced last week that the trial of The State of Ohio vs. Joshua Sills, has been continued to July 31. Sills, 25, was indicted on February 1, 2023 by the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court Grand Jury, and Attorney General Dave Yost, on one count of rape and one count of kidnapping, both first-degree felonies. The indictment reported that in December, 2019, Sills “engaged in sexual activity that was not consensual and held the victim against her will.”
Law enforcement sources said that the crime was immediately reported, and the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office reportedly conducted a detailed investigation. Evidence was gathered at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, and will be used to build the case against Sills. The case is being prosecuted by the Special Prosecutions Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
Sills, a Meadowbrook High School graduate from Sarahsville, was signed as an undrafted free agent in April, 2022 by the Philadelphia Eagles after he went unselected in the draft.
He attended West Virginia from 2016 to 2019, then transferred to Oklahoma State in 2020.
Sills appeared in one game for the Eagles last October against the Arizona Cardinals.
On Feb. 1, 2023, the NFL placed Sills on the league’s Commissioner Exempt List, barring him from participating in any team travel or activities
