Ted Schleappi
August 8,1964-August 20, 2023
Ted began his life growing up on his family’s Ohio farm, doing chores, riding his pony and camping outside all summer.
He attended Tuscarawas Valley HS and completed secondary school at Caldwell HS in Noble County, Ohio in 1982. While there he earned letters in baseball attended Boys State and worked for the Youth Conservation Corp in state parks.
After graduating he joined the army and served in Germany for two years.
Returning home, he earned his solo pilot’s license while working at Wadsworth Ohio Airport, where he once saved a pilot by pulling him from his crashed, burning airplane. Some weekends he crewed for his brother’s auto racing team and helped nephews with soap box derby races. He also completed a BMW advanced driving racing course.
He moved to Columbus Ohio in 1985, attending IT classes at Columbus State Community College while working for America West Airline.
Ted married Caroline Heck in 2003, and had two children, Colin Fergus and Evelyn Gael.
He then began doing IT work for the Ohio Republican Party in 1999, where he worked for several years, before becoming IT Director at Aegis/Mission Essential Personnel, a security contractor company for the U.S. military.
Most recently he was employed by Spectrum in Columbus.
He is preceded in death by his brother Scott. He is survived by son Colin and daughter Evelyn; mother Patricia Anne Clark, formerly of Caldwell, Ohio; sisters LuAnn Ross and Stephanie Schleappi; sister-in-law Rose Schleappi; brother-in-law Donn Ross; his children’s mother Carolyn Heck; nephews Jacob and Samuel Schleappi; uncles Terry and Charles “Chip” McCullough and their wives; and many cousins.
Ted was much loved by his friends and family, a fisherman, sailor, car and motorcycle enthusiast, guitar and ukulele player. He was a unique spirit, a natural comedian and storyteller with an irreverent sense of humor He will be much missed.
