By Tara Estadt

The SHS boys and girls indoor track teams traveled to New Concord on January 21 to compete at Muskingum University. Both teams earned 3rd place titles. The meet had over 1,200 entries from 42 different schools.

The Henry D. Bullock Health and Wellness Complex features state-of-the-art track and field facilities, a 200 meter track, and a multi-purpose video board. It is surrounded by a third floor viewing area that provides seating for spectators. “We are so fortunate to get to compete at Muskingum. With the ability to host such a large meet and draw a crowd of fans, our kids really get a taste of what it’s like to compete at the college level,” states coach Chris Estadt. “It’s exciting to look up and see your friends and family, cheering you on, from the third floor. We are so appreciative of Muskingum University. They host three well-organized meets for high school kids each year.”

The boys team scored 46 points, just shy of placing second over Canon-McMillan (54 pts) and first over Batavia (56 pts). Leading the team in points was Braxton Barnett, with a 1st place in long jump (21’2”) and 60m hurdles (8.28). Barnett also placed second in the high jump (5’10”) and fifth in the 400m dash (55.53).
