Court House Elevator Still Down; Commissioners Looking Into New Public Transportation Service

The commissioners met on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 and Monday January 29. Present were President Allen Fraley, Vice President Ty Moore, and Commissioner Gary Saling.

Looking into Transportation Service

The commissioners are reportedly looking into a transportation program for the county. They visited Morgan County who has its own system, transporting passengers within a 50 mile radius for less than $10 per trip. President Fraley stated that 48 percent of their customers are senior citizens.
Morgan County’s service reportedly owns 19 minivans and handicap accessible buses.
“Monroe County is also starting a transportation program for its residents. We want to learn more before making a decision for Noble County,” stated Commissioner Gary Saling.

Misty Wells Approved DJFS Director
They voted to appoint  Misty Wells, also mayor of Caldwell, as director of Noble County Department of Jobs and Family Services to replace Mindy Lowe who retired last year.

Stock Township Road Vacation Requested
The commissioners scheduled a road vacation requested by Stock Township trustee Robert Forshey. The viewing will be at the site on Monday March 4, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. and a public hearing will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the commissioner’s office. The road in question is a fifth of a mile of Zerger Quarry Road in Summerfield. The legal description of the road can be viewed in next week’s Journal as a legal notice.

Dog Tag Deadline Extended to end of February; Court House Elevator Delayed Again
The commissioners voted to extend Dog Tag sales to February 29, 2024. The dog tags are sold by the auditor’s office on the second floor of the court house where the elevator is again not in operation.
After initially passing inspection and back up and running for only a day, the commissioners learned the elevator will need realigned and could take several weeks to be fixed.

“Be Kind Week”

The Commissioners voted to adopt the ‘Be Kind Week’ proclamation which states:
“Whereas research in the fields of neuroscience and positive psychology suggests that kindness is something that is developed in adolescents by actually feeling it, not just thinking about it (Tenenbaum, 2012),
Whereas kindness is scientifically proven to increase our happy hormones (serotonin, oxytocin and endorphins) which cause all kinds of amazing benefits like reducing stress, creating a healthier heart, improving our slowing the aging process, increasing concentration and more (Source: Ansell, 2015; Hamilton, 2011; Currie, 2015)
Whereas A BE KIND week is a time where we change the routines if our lives and focus on devoting ourselves to spreading good vibes in our community,
Whereas a Be Kind week is designed FOR positive change and being kind not about being against or ANTI something,
Whereas a Be Kind week inspires conversations about what “being kind” truly means and encourages people to brainstorm actions that promote kindness, connection and the opportunity to lead “kind” activities in our communities,
“Now therefore we, the Commissioners of Noble County, Ohio do herby proclaim the week of February 11- February 17, 2024 to be BE KIND WEEK in NOBLE COUNTY, OHIO and ask all citizens of this community to observe and take part in activities recognizing the importance of kindness in our lives, our families and our county”
