Chester Ellis Meeker

Chester Ellis Meeker, 78, of Williamstown, WV, died on Monday, March 4, 2024. He was born on July 28, 1945 in Barberton, Ohio.

Chester was a fun guy who cared about others. He was a loving and caring husband, brother, uncle and friend. Chester worked for many companies, including Firestone Tire Company, Barron and Benson and Chamber Heating and Cooling. Another adventure was the purchase of a farm with his in-laws, Mary and Leroy Schalmo, where he learned to be a farmer. Many friends and family had much enjoyment on the weekends riding the ponies, three wheelers and playing cards. Chester did much building on the farm house, learned to run the John Deere and Steiner on those hills. He helped with the construction of the hall at St. Henry Church in Harriettsville, was a member of the Health Ministry, worked at the Tri-County Food Pantry, soup kitchen in Parkersburg and Habitat in Wood and Washington counties.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Schalmo) Meeker, whom he met on a blind date and married on December 28, 1974; sister, Rose Daugherty; and many nieces and nephews. Chester was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ruth Meeker; five siblings, Bertie Casady, William, Harold, Floyd and John Meeker; two nieces, Barb and Patty.

Chester will be remembered at a Funeral Liturgy with Mass at St Michael Catholic Church of Vienna in Vienna, WV on Friday, March 8th, 2024 from 10:00 am, with the Rev. John Gallagher celebrating. Burial will take place at 3:00 pm on Friday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster, Ohio. Visitation will be held at MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME in Marietta, Ohio on Thursday, March 7th, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
