Rossiter Earns All-Ohio Wrestling Honors, Places Third
Three local grapplers wrestled in the OHSAA Division 3 State Meet over the past weekend at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of Ohio State University.
Shenandoah senior Tristen Rossiter (120) earned All-Ohio honors finishing in third place with a 6-1 win over Xavier Pearson (Trinty) on Sunday. Rossiter scored a takedown late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. He extended his lead to 4-0 with a takedown early in the second period and added to his lead with another takedown in the final period. Pearson scored late in the match on an escape for the final 6-1 score.
This is his second year earning All-Ohio honors as he placed fifth-place last year in the 113 pound weight class. He finishes the season with a 49-3 record.
Rossiter started the tournament on Friday with a win over Dominic Kemble (Southeast). 7-0. He lost his first match on Saturday to Eli Campbell (Legacy Christian), 4-1.
He bounced back to win his next three matches to earn the chance to wrestle for third place. He pinned Corbin Kimmel (Wayne Trace) in 2:58, Ethan Amens (Northmor) in 0:32, and beat Trevor Wilcox (Otsego), 11-6.
Two Caldwell wrestlers earned the right to compete in the state tournament.
Freshman Jesse Pemberton (106) was 0-2 for the tournament. He was pinned by Ethan Powell (Genoa Area) in his first match of the tournament in 2:55 and by Hayden Jones (Brookville) in 0:29. Pemberton finished the season with a 44-6 record.
Senior Jase Norman (285) was also 0-2 on the day. He was pinned by Cohen Riggenbach (Dalton) in 2:47 and by Brycen Dunlap (Monroeville) in 6:30. He ended the season with a 46-8 record.
