Russell A. “Rusty” Mellott

Russell A. “Rusty” Mellott, age 70, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, November 29, 2024, at his home. He was born October 26, 1954, in Barnesville, son of the late Paul H. and Delores D. Dunfee Mellott, Jr. Rusty was a 1972 graduate of Zane Trace High School. He was employed as a supervisor by Akzo-Nobel for 20 years and retired as a manager for Engelfield Oil Company in Columbus following 19 years of service. He was a member of the Good Guys Car Club in Columbus and the Association of Quality Control. Rusty loved drinking coffee and eating at Lori’s Restaurant in Caldwell. He enjoyed playing softball and coaching the players and he was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Guardians, and Columbus Clippers. He also enjoyed horse racing and betting. He was especially proud of his Native American Cherokee heritage and enjoyed going to pow-wows.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mitzie L. Ginn Mallett, whom he married June 11, 1977, and who died February 13, 2023; and two brothers, Randy and Jeffrey Mellott.

Surviving are his sisters-in-law, Rita Mellott of Quaker City, Doris (Charlie) Stottsberry of Caldwell, and Darla Gallagher of Columbus; a granddaughter, Savanna Bond of West Virginia; several nieces and nephews, including his caregiver, Shari (Jim) Rayner of Caldwell; and his  beloved beagle, Queenie.

Friends may call Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10-11 a.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery with Pastor George Clark officiating.
