Lady Zeps Drop Doubleheader to Frontier

Justin Carpenter

The Shenandoah Varsity Lady Zeps battled hard in a Saturday doubleheader against the Frontier Cougars but came up short in both matchups, falling 5-0 in Game 1 and 5-2 in Game 2.

Game 1: Lady Zeps Struggle to Get Bats Going

In the opener, Frontier took an early lead, scoring in the first inning on a dropped third strike. They added another run in the second on a groundout and capitalized on a Lady Zeps error in the third to extend their lead to 3-0. Frontier tacked on two more runs before closing out the shutout victory.

Shenandoah struggled to generate offense against Frontier’s Berentz, who dominated on the mound with a complete-game shutout. She allowed just five hits, struck out 13, and didn’t walk a batter. Natalee Gheen led the Lady Zeps at the plate, going 2-for-3.

Allison Crum took the loss for Shenandoah, pitching six innings and giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits. She struck out three and walked three.

Game 2: Lady Zeps Out-Hit Cougars but Fall Short

Shenandoah came out strong in Game 2, out-hitting Frontier 9-8. The Lady Zeps struck first in the opening inning when Allison Crum scored on a sacrifice fly. In the third, Brylee Morrison ripped a double to bring in another run, putting Shenandoah ahead 2-0.

However, Frontier responded quickly, tying the game at two in the bottom of the third on a passed ball. They took the lead for good in the fifth on a groundout RBI from Livingston and added two more runs before sealing the 5-2 win.

Morrison had a strong day at the plate, leading the Lady Zeps with three hits. Karlee McKee and Morrison each drove in a run. Defensively, Shenandoah played a clean game, committing no errors and turning two double plays.

Karis McKee took the loss in the circle, pitching six innings and allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking three.
