Redskins are OVAC 2A Runners Up

The top seeded Caldwell Redskins traveled to Edison on Saturday to take on Toronto in the OVAC 2A Championship game with the Red Knights handing them the first loss of the season 4-3.
The Redskins got on the board in the bottom of the first. Dominic Fry was hit by a pitch and Cameron Sidwell singled. Fry then scored on an error by the pitcher and Sidwell scored on a ground out by Carter Wheeldin, giving Caldwell a 2-0 lead.
Toronto responded by scoring all four of their runs in the top of the second. C Barcus singled followed by a double by T Newbold. H Thomas was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Redskins pitcher, Jake Laswell then struck out two batters before walking D Bouscher, scoring Barcus from third. R Dickinson then singled to plate Newbold and Thomas. Finally, Bouscher scored on a defensive interference to give the Red Knights a 4-3 lead.
Caldwell scored again in the fifth inning. Fry started the inning with a walk and Wheeldin doubled to center to hit in Fry. This closed the gap to 4-3.
The Redskins scored three runs on seven hits. Wheeldin led the way with a double, a single, and two runs batted in. Kyler Starr hit a double while Sidwell had two singles. Dierkis Vincent and Gentry Brown each had a single.
Laswell took the loss on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings. He allowed four runs on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk. JR Curry came on in relief, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing two hits and striking out 12.
The Redskins qualified for the finals with a 1-0 walk off win over the fourth seed Shadyside on Monday.
The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the seventh thanks to several outstanding defensive plays including Vincent throwing from center field to Curry at the plate for an out and a running catch by Sidwell in the top of the seventh inning.
Vincent started off the bottom of the seventh drawing a walk. Curry then had a bunt single, advancing Vincent to second. Starr was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Izic Cool came to the plate and hit a hard ground ball into center field to drive in Vincent for the walk off win.
The Redskins scored one run on three hits. Cool had a single and the game winning RBI and Curry had two singles.
Laswell got the win on the mound, pitching the complete game. He allowed three hits while striking out nine.
Caldwell also visited Fort Frye on Tuesday, returning home with the 9-7 win.
The Redskins pitched several players with Starr getting the win. He pitched 3.1 innings allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Wheeldin pitched 1.2 innings giving up one hit and one walk. Fry allowed three runs with two strikeouts and three walks in .2 innings. Sidwell gave up three runs on four hits with one strikeout in .2 innings. Cool also pitched .2 innings allowing one hit with one strikeout and one base on balls.
Caldwell scored nine runs on nine hits. Curry had two singles with three RBIs with Starr hitting two singles with one RBI. Vincent hit a double with two RBIs. Sidwell had a single and two RBIs while Fry had a single and one RBI. Wheeldin and Brown each had a single.
The 11-1 Redskins will play at Parkersburg on Tuesday and at Coshocton on Friday.
