Evelyn J. Wheeler

Evelyn J. Wheeler, age 93, of Caldwell died Thursday, January 01, 2026, at the home of her daughter in Zanesville.  Evelyn was born May 4, 1932 in Summerfield, daughter of the late Edward E. and Bessie B. Snyder McElfresh. She was a graduate of Summerfield High School and had, over the years, worked at the Red and White Store in Summerfield, The Sharon General Store and The KV Store in Caldwell, retiring from Hayes True Value in  Caldwell.  Evelyn was a member of the Caldwell Free Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, word search books, camping and traveling.  She will be remembered by her favorite phrase “Just give me ten minutes,” and she would be ready to go.  Evelyn loved and cherished her family,

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elvin A. “Scoop” Wheeler, whom she married May 21, 1977 and who died June 10, 2019; her former husband, Richard F. Schott; one sister, Margie Martin; three brothers, Don, Bill and Bob McElfresh.

Surviving are her children, Kevin (Linda) Schott of Sharon, Jack (Olivia) Schott of Shreveport, Louisiana and Jill (John) Kelley of Zanesville; seven grandchildren, Cora, Ellen, Cody, Cole, Logan, Dustin and Mitch; several great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Patty McElfresh; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street in Caldwell where the funeral will be observed on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Ken Perkins officiating.  Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.  An online guestbook may be signed at www.mcvay-perkins.com.

    Jill your mom was a special lady, had alot of fun times camping with all of you at Salt Fork. you have our sympathy for you & all of your family. Take care!!!
