James R. Hickman
James R. Hickman, age 82, of Caldwell, died Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care Morrison House in Zanesville. He was born March 31, 1943, in Belle Valley, son of the late Levi V. And Sarah Ellis Hickman. Jim attended Belle Valley School and was a United States Army veteran having served from 1961 to 1964. Over the years he had worked in coal mines, truck driving and oil fields, retiring from King Quarries. Jim attended Bates Hill Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, bluegrass and gospel music. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his devotion to family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Hope Connell Hickman, whom he married April 17, 1965, and who died November 13, 2021; three sisters, Vickie Bennett, Linda Yerian and Patty Nicholson; three brothers, Edgar, Larry and Clifford Hickman.
Surviving are four daughters, Linda S. (Charles) Copus, Jr. of Caldwell, Tammy L. (Terry) Springer of Caldwell, Tina F. Clark of Caldwell and Jennifer N. Hickman of Byesville; two brothers, Jerry Hickman of Nevada and Paul Hickman of Pleasant City; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 4, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell. The funeral will be observed, Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Harry Summers officiating. Military honors will be presented by Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
