Donald A. Souza, age 62, of Charles Town, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, under the compassionate care of hospice, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Donald was born on July 27, 1963, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He lived a life marked by curiosity, creativity, and deep love for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Patrick Souza and Celestina Souza; his beloved husband, Joe McCarey; and his brothers, Patrick and Clyde.
Donald is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Kathryn Souza, and his cherished granddaughters, Kenleigh and Charlotte. He is also survived by his twin brother, Ron (Eddie); his sister, Lovelyn; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his cousin Louise, with whom he shared a particularly close bond. During his illness, he was lovingly supported and cared for by his sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and David Pumphrey.
Donald had a passion for technology and was always eager to explore the latest gadgets. He was meticulous with numbers, a trait that reflected his attention to detail and thoughtful nature. He found great joy in traveling with his husband and treasured the time they spent together. At home, he loved caring for his two dogs, Buddy and Boo, and was an avid movie enthusiast. He was also the family photographer, capturing countless memories and special moments that will be treasured for generations. Donald will be remembered for his big smile, friendly and talkative nature, and the warmth he brought to everyone around him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. James The Greater Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV 25414, with burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Donald’s memory to Hospice of the Panhandle or the ALS Foundation.
