Beverly S. Carter

Beverly S. Carter, age 68, of Canton, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at her home. She was born January 15, 1958, in Peebles, Ohio, daughter of James R. “Jim” Carter and the late Ruth A. Knisley Kemmer. Beverly was employed as an STNA at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, and later as a machine operator for Detroit Diesel. She loved to sew, was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed playing board games, cards games, and dice games. She also enjoyed music and singing. Beverly enjoyed being outdoors and trips to the beach in Mexico, and she loved to travel and discover new places and experiences. She also enjoyed horror movies. Beverly was kind and generous as well as loving, warm, and goofy, loving to make others laugh. She was determined in the most beautiful and frustrating way. and she was always getting into shenanigans. Beverly was a happy, bubbly person who loved spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her brother, James R. “Jimmy” Carter; her companion of seventeen years, James “Jim” Nicholson; and her step-father, Robert H. “Bob” or “Pops” Kemmer.

Surviving in addition to her father are her children, Jerry A. Poland of Woodsfield, Alena M. Phillips (Heather Peterson) of Canton, and Kenneth B. Poland (Citlalmina Hernandez Toro) of Columbus; 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Kimberly, Brent, Alex, and Kaulyn; two-great-grandchildren, Jasper and Noah; her siblings, Karen (Gary) Veselenak of Byesville, Joann Dixon and Vonda Franklin, both of Dayton, Vicky (Scott) McConnell of Byesville, and Cindy Carter of Columbus; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her grand pets, Fry, Miles, Leela, and Piper.

Friends may call Monday, July 6, 2026, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell where the funeral service will follow visitation at 1 p.m. with Jackie Hoover officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Byesville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation at www.komen.org.
