Jerome J. “Tom” Schockling

Jerome J. “Tom” Schockling, age 94, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Altercare Summit Acres in Caldwell. He was born September 14, 1928, in Noble County, son of the late George B. and Jo Hannah Hupp Schockling. Tom was a graduate of Caldwell High School and was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He owned and operated Schockling Construction Company for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell. Tom enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing cards, and he enjoyed rabbit and squirrel hunting in his younger years. He was known for his great sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian B. Crock Schockling, whom he married February 14, 1953, and who died September 27, 2021; one son, Arthur R. “Art” Schockling; one sister, Geraldine Crum; and three brothers, James, Donald, and Vernon “Pug” Schockling.

Surviving are his children, Doug Schockling of Caldwell, Tommy Schockling of Caldwell, Lisa (Ed) Smith of Granville, Kristy (Dale) Crum of Caldwell, and Tim (Susie) Schockling of Caldwell; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Schockling of Caldwell; 10 grandchildren, Kim (Jason) Rucker, Molly (Eric) McVicker; Jennifer (Mike) O’Brian, Greg (Kim) Smith, Nathan Smith, Emily (Matt) O’Brien, Mary Ann (Jonathon) Kinnen, Sarah (Levi) Seebach, James Schockling, and Sophia Schockling; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 3-7 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a rosary will be observed following visitation at 7PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Monday, April 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell with Rev. Fr. Thomas Nelson as celebrant. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. An online guestbook may be signed at www.mcvay-perkins.com

    Sorry Tom Schockling’s passing. I grew up with Tom and Doug and offer my most sincere condolences.
