Tipton Philomena “Philly” Bonome Chapman, age 94, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Altercare Summit Acres. She was born February 24, 1929, in Maulden, West Virginia, daughter of the late Ralph and Nannie Margaret Gardner Bonome. She was a 1946 graduate of DuPont High School in Belle, West Virginia. Philly was employed as a teller at First National Bank in Caldwell and she was a beloved homemaker. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Belle Valley. She served in Christian ministry beside her husband, Darrell, for over 50 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crafting.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Darrell Lee Chapman, whom she married June 20, 1947, and who died December 27, 2020; a son-in-law, Michael Howiler; and two sisters and one brother.
Surviving are her children, C. Gail Chapman of Jackson, Karen L. (Greg) Magruder of Gainesville, Florida, Jeannette L. Howiler of Caldwell, and Paul (Karen) Chapman of Cumberland; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday, May 15, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 200 Grove Road, Belle Valley, where the funeral service will be observed Tuesday, May 16 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Greg Magruder officiating. Burial will follow at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church in Philly’s memory.
