Norbert William Hupp

Norbert William Hupp, known affectionately as Bill to his family and friends, passed away peacefully at Marietta Memorial Hospital on August 8, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on September 22, 1937, in Noble County, the son of John and O’Tillie Nau Hupp. Bill lived a long and blessed life which he shared with his wife of 61 years, Janice Virginia Smith Hupp. Together, they raised a family that included their daughters, Debra Lynn Reed (Sam Reed), and Kathy Jo Christman, and their son Gregory William Hupp (Kimberly Dawn Hendershot Hupp). Bill’s favorite days were those spent surrounded by his family and his grandchildren: Nicholas Dalton Reed, Katelyn Nicole Reed, Jacob Dillon Christman, and Kenzley Rae Hupp. He was also blessed with the addition of his great grandson, Boston Ballard Cox.

After graduating from Caldwell High School, Bill served in the National Guard and worked as a mechanic for Worl Thompson Motors for many years. He retired from GMN Tri-County Head Start where he enjoyed driving the children to field trips and was warmly known as Mr. Bill. He modeled loyalty, service, and a strong work ethic that each of his children embody in their own lives today. His family will fondly remember the vacations to see the Cincinnati Reds play at River Front Stadium, Sundays spent at home grilling BBQ chicken and playing catch, and Dad sitting on the back porch reading Louis L’Amour novels. Their most cherished memories, however, will be of the love and devotion he had for his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five sisters, Luella Crum, Mary Hill, Thelma Johnson, Rose Schell, and Leoba Archer; and four brothers, Albert Hupp, Edward Hupp, Howard Hupp, Arthur Hupp, and an infant brother. Along with his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his sister Agatha Schafer and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday, August 11, 2025, from 4-7PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 10AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell with Rev. Fr. Thomas Nelson as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. An online guestbook may be signed at www.mcvay-perkins.com
